Docking Department Manager

Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy. We currently have an opportunity for a Dock Master at our Marinette, Wisconsin location.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the overall operation of ship launches, dry docking and mooring of vessels at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Marinette WI. This position will also require the oversight of the Ship Lift by supervising and training Dock Department personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Manages the Docking Department that is responsible for the maintenance and care of all assets involved in docking/mooring operations.
  • Provides direction and guidance for the Ship Lift facility maintenance.
  • Presents information and corresponds with shipyard personnel and customers.
  • Oversees and controls the vessel traffic within the shipyard's operational area and assists customers with arrival and departures from the pier.
  • Calculates and monitors weight changes onboard the vessel while on Dock and at the Pier to ensure a positive stability of all vessels under company control.
  • Manages the blocking, fendering, and line handling elements to safely dock, undock, and moor all vessels.
  • Ensures compliance with appropriate FMM, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and USCG regulations.
  • Supervises crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork, and pride.
  • Interfaces directly and participates in meetings with the Navy and/or the customer.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Demonstrates leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Company.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace in a controlled work space, but has moving equipment, sometimes in elements with extreme conditions or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but with equipment can be noisy at time. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
