Project Coordinator (Hybrid)

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $63,500- $112,900. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $66,400 - $80,000.

This position is a Hybrid role with a percentage of the time remote and on-site along with a flexible work arrangement, which includes a non-standard work schedule.

This position is a 1-year contract and is eligible for full UC benefits.

Reporting to the AVC for RCI and Chief of Staff, the Project Coordinator provides analytical and project coordination support to the VCR immediate office. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for providing various levels of analytical and administrative support across numerous projects. This will include working to codevelop, implement, and prepare summative reports. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring project progress and will interface with UC Merced departments. Communication skills and the ability to work with diverse organizations and people are essential. The Project Coordinator will follow standard practices and procedures in collecting and analyzing relevant data from which answers can be readily obtained.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; researches organizational structures, policies and procedures to support the ORED strategic planning efforts and long term initiatives resulting from developed plan. Provides technical guidance and quality assessment.
• Coordinates implementation of new VCR meeting structure - ORED leadership, all-hands and campus town halls. Plans activities, creates materials, tracks follows-up on discussion/action items resulting from meetings.
• Provides support of the VCR's research safety initiatives including the Research Safety Committee (Chaired by the AVC/Chief of Staff) and the High Containment Laboratory Group. This includes generating materials for committee meetings, high-level analysis of related policies and procedures and general administrative support.
• Researches best project management tool to be utilized by VCR immediate office and ORED administrative units. Supports the adoption and continued use of the tool.
• Researches and drafts complex proposals, reports, briefings, executive summaries, and speeches. Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents for the collection and exchange of data.
• Supports new projects and initiatives identified by the AVC/Chief of Staff and/or VCR.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's from an accredited university in a related area or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
• Advanced degree from an accredited university in project management or related field. (Preferred)
• Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in project management or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Masters degree is preferred but may not substitute for the required experience. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
• Analytical / problem-solving skills.
• Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
• Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Required Strong policy analysis techniques.
