The EHS Program Safety Officer will be responsible to:
  • Function as the key EH&S contact for the service area representatives. Provide key technical guidance and facilitates achievement of program goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the Exec Director is apprised of and understands all significant inter/intra departmental communications related to EHS matters within their sector responsibilities. Address all inquiries in a timely and accurate manner. Support and/or participate in all other EHS-related activities as directed by the Exec Director
  • Serve on the Operations Committee that represents the service area as the EHS contact and liaison. Work collaboratively with the Committee membership to identify meaningful and relevant EHS goals and objectives that are consistent with the Hospital's vision, core values, and goals. Establish performance metrics intended for real improvement of Hospital systems and conditions
  • Develop and maintain a measurement system to track performance metrics. Compile, review, analyze and interpret data and communicate with the Committee using clear, concise reporting mechanisms to achieve improvement and compliance.
  • Identify current regulatory challenges and emerging EHS issues that may impact the service area. Provide an impact analysis of emerging EHS issues to the Committee and work with the service area reps to formulate and implement sector specific risk mitigation strategies and tactics. Obtain and communicate benchmarking data (e.g., best practices), when appropriate.
  • Participate in the development of Hospital-wide and service area specific training and education programs, as appropriate. Develop and conduct training programs for new employee orientation, mandatory yearly reviews, and department specific orientations. Identify creative and effective outreach techniques to raise Hospital awareness of EHS matters.
  • Investigate, evaluate and coordinate response to employee, and visitor incidents, accidents and safety concerns. Collaborate with appropriate departments to develop, recommend and implement corrective measures by reviewing, compiling, analyzing and interpreting the appropriate data.
  • Work closely with service area representatives to maintain regulatory compliance with Federal, state and local regulations. Closely monitor the EOC website with specific attention to their service area. Work with SharePoint administrators to improve easy access to relevant documents, interpretation of data, and visual display of important dashboards. May act as a liaison to agencies, some of which include but are not limited to local fire departments, state environmental regulators and Federal regulators.
  • Work collaboratively to produce, compose and edit appropriate written documentation, policies, procedures, manuals, and plans that are informational and are used for compliance.

To qualify, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene or a closely related scientific field and a minimum of 5 yrs exp is required. Experience with managing committees in an institutional setting is highly desirable.
  • A Master's degree and certifications in Emergency Response, Hazardous Materials Management, and/or Safety Management is preferred
  • The ability to effectively operate in a matrix management system. Able to identify and prioritize EHS training and resource needs for service area in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Hybrid - 3-4 days a week on site weekly
