Position Summary

UNM's Utility Services is currently seeking a sharp, enthusiastic professional to join our Utilities team as a Utilities Maintenance Mechanic (Pre-Cert)! This is a fantastic opportunity to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on utility plant equipment and systems, promoting the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam boilers, refrigeration units, potable water systems, electricity production systems, and associated equipment. What You'll Do:

  • Hands-On Repairs: Work directly under certified mechanics to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on various utility systems.
  • Diagnose and Fix: Examine machinery to identify malfunctions and complete necessary repairs, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  • Participate in Installations: Assist in the installation and repair of piping and fittings for oil, gas, water, and steam systems, learning from experienced professionals.
  • Keep It Clean: Maintain a tidy work environment by cleaning plant facilities and equipment as required.
  • Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere to established safety and environmental policies, promoting a culture of safety in the workplace.
  • Flexible Shifts: Be prepared to work occasional 16-hour shifts as scheduled or otherwise required.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must have Basic First Aid and Adult CPR/AED Certificates or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
