Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking Health Educator III (2 openings) for the Center for Public Health Workforce Development within the School of Public Health. The Five Minutes to Help Regional Health Educator III will be responsible for managing groups of Five Minutes to Help instructors throughout New Jersey (NJ).

There will be two Health Educators in New Jersey, each focusing mainly on one region of the state (north/south). Health Educators will work on recruiting and training new instructors and providing support for existing instructors (ex. leading refresher classes, connecting co-instructors, securing training locations, for classes, etc.). Each Health Educator will also co-facilitate the Five Minutes to Help provider level classes in their region. Educators will report to the Program Director, Public Health Activities, and is a fully remote position.

Duties include:

  • Partner with trained Five Minutes to Help instructors to establish local courses.
  • As needed, serve as lead instructor to co-teach local provider courses (4-hour course).
  • Design and facilitate 'refresher sessions' for existing instructors, to review course changes, challenges, modifications, etc.
  • Support program and outreach activities of the Program Director at Rutgers and the Outreach Coordinator at NJ Dept of Health.
  • Provide routine feedback on course implementation activities, recommending course modifications and updates as identified.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a fully remote work arrangement. Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, community health, health education, social work, or similar areas.
  • Candidates for this position must be trained in teaching the Rutgers-developed Five Minutes to Help course and have taught at least four classes, including the Master/Instructor level course.
  • Experience as an Emergency Medical Technician with experience providing support for those with substance abuse disorders or public health or social work background, with experience with substance use disorders.
  • Ability to facilitate the Five Minutes to Help course and provide feedback to existing instructors
  • Knowledge and understanding of the work of first responders, and particularly how they support individuals with substance use disorders
  • Ability to work with EMT professionals, providing training and education in the delivery of the course

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Public Health, Social Work, Education, or similar field
  • Licensed EMT or EMS First Responder
