General Purpose: Responsible for the efficient and effective processing of patients through the practice. Assist providers in providing quality, compassionate patient care. Essential Duties:
- Prepares patient for examination.
- Review patient's chart to assure completeness and accuracy, escorts patient to exam room, perform necessary assessment functions (B/P, temp, height, weight), updates medication and allergy information, questions patient and updates health history. Informs provider that the patient is ready to be examined.
- Administers immunizations, medications, and assists with treatments authorized by the provider.
- Participates in the orientation of new caregivers.
- Screens and triages phone calls. Takes accurate messages and distributes to the appropriate personnel. Phones prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Maintains practice standards by participating in inservices, committees, etc. Assists in developing and implementing quality control and practice policies.
- Performs clerical duties as required to maintain an efficient practice flow.
- Inventories, orders and restocks as needed. Maintains equipment and environmental safety.
- Engages and helps promote patient/family teaching, as appropriate; and provides an educational environment for patients and patient families.
- Administers oral and injectable medications. Phones prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Documents information appropriately in electronic medical record.
- May support front desk as necessary.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
BCLS certification Preferred: Certified as an M.A. through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or through the Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA) |
Work Experience |
* Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills. * Use of electronic health record. * EPIC experience. * Experience as an MA in a physician office setting preferred. |
Education |
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of formal medical assistant training program, including externship. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
Ability to provide care for patients, which is age specific to their physical and safety needs, psychosocial concerns and educational level. Demonstrates a positive team attitude and has interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, their families, providers and co-worker. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills |
