Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Junior Site/Infrastructure Civil Engineer to join our Civil Design Team. This is a great opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting firm. The successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. We offer a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop innovative, cost-effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits.

In this position, you will be responsible for providing support for site design, grading and drainage, yard piping, and linear construction efforts on small to large water, wastewater, and stormwater projects. You will be working with other civil engineers and design staff, and collaborating with our structural, mechanical, process and electrical engineers. Projects include both conventional design/bid/build and alternative delivery such as design/build.

Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse in-person and virtual team environment, and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities. You will be working with technical staff and executing the following types of work:



  • Perform engineering work with the Civil Design Discipline team on water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater projects including pipelines, site layout for pumping stations and treatment plants, and grading and drainage efforts for municipal and private industrial clients.
  • Support civil efforts to prepare basis of design reports, construction bid plans, specifications, calculation, and equipment selection.
  • Calculate and model pipeline hydraulics for both open channel and closed conduits.
  • Preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables.
  • Support planning studies, alternatives analysis, and permitting.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspections as part of engineering services during construction.
  • Conduct field work, such as site investigations, as necessary for various projects
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines.
  • Assist with data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Coordinate civil project work with geotechnical, architectural, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers and consultants.


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field required, Master's degree preferred
  • 2 - 5+years experience required
  • EIT preferred
  • Coursework in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, soil mechanics, and surveying preferred
  • Experience using AutoCAD C3D is preferred
  • Experience using ArcGIS, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS is a plus
  • Experience with site and drainage design, hydrology/hydraulics, pipeline design is required
  • Field/construction experience a plus
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally is essential
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $72,000 - $98,000

Location B: $79,000 - $108,000

Location C: $87,000 - $118,000
