Principal Tax Accountant

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Tax Supervisor, primary responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the quarterly and annual tax provision in accordance with ASC740 for global consolidation and U.S. consolidation and subsidiaries of Westlake Corporation. This position will require interaction with members of corporate and plant accounting departments and the various business units. Other tax responsibilities include assistance with tax research, various special projects, other accounting for income tax matters, and assistance with preparing and/or reviewing of federal and state income tax returns including workpapers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare and/or review quarterly and annual federal and state income tax provision using OneSource Tax Provision software.
  • Prepare income tax provision schedules and/or review income tax provision schedules prepared by other tax team members.
  • Prepare FIN48 workpapers and calculation using OneSource Uncertain Tax Positions software.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual global and U.S. effective tax rate analysis.
  • Prepare tax journal entries and submit to members of accounting departments.
  • Prepare and/or assist with review of quarterly tax accounting rollforwards, reconciliation, and variance analysis.
  • Assist Tax Supervisor with preparation of SEC 10K/10Q income tax footnotes and disclosures.
  • Prepare and analyze return to accrual and tax basis balance sheet.
  • Assist Tax Supervisor with income tax provision work plan including internal/external information request to ensure various schedules are completed and deliverables are provided before or by due dates.
  • Prepare various internal memos for file.
  • Assist Tax Supervisor with net operating losses, deferred tax assets, and valuation allowance analysis.
  • Assist Tax Supervisor with tax research and preparation of tax accounting technical memos.
  • Assist income tax compliance teams with preparation and/or review of federal and state income tax returns including workpapers.
  • Assist with various special projects including tax automation efforts.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Ability to work remotely when not working in the office.
  • Any additional tax responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors in Accounting is required (Masters in Tax preferred); CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant tax experience in a public accounting and/or a corporate environment.
  • Advanced OneSource Tax Provision software experience required.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Working knowledge of ASC740 Accounting for Income Taxes.
  • Experience with SAP or other major accounting systems.
  • Alteryx experience desirable.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a team player and willing to work overtime to meet deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
