Job Description

As a UMKC employee within the Building Maintenance Mechanic position, you'll belong to an engaged, diverse community and will get to interact and engage with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds daily. As a Building Maintenance Mechanic, you will support both Volker and Hospital Hill campuses by providing semi-skilled maintenance and repair for a group of buildings, including permanent and moveable equipment, referring more complex problems to skilled-trades staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete preventative maintenance on heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems including single room units up to complete building systems.
  • Repair and maintain building accessories and equipment, such as tables, chairs, residential furniture, gas, and electrical appliances, etc.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing systems for water softeners, restroom facilities, water coolers, etc.; open sewers/drains; replace faucets, etc.
  • Complete preventative maintenance and help with testing on emergency and life safety equipment in all buildings (emergency lights, fire alarm systems, sprinkler lines, etc.)
  • Locate parts and prepare requests for purchase of parts and equipment; provide input as to recommended equipment purchases for consistency in maintenance and repair.
  • Clean area upon completion; return materials and equipment and restore area to original state.
  • Help in the "room turn" process throughout the year when needed.
  • Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools and equipment.
  • Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift

7:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; demonstrated skills may offset requirements and a minimum of 4-years of actual experience in general building maintenance, including heating/air conditioning, electrical, water treatment, and plumbing, etc., is necessary.
  • Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials used for general building maintenance.
  • Manual dexterity and physical coordination.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$18.00 to $22.50 per hour, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
