Purpose

Administer the graduate program in the Department of Special Education through the effective delivery of programs and services for graduate students. The Graduate Program Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for graduate students and as the liaison between the graduate students, the College of Education, and the Graduate School.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement standards, expectations, and goals of the department and/or college and serve as liaison to the Graduate School and other university offices.

  • Advise and/or mentor students and faculty members in recruitment, admission, academics, progress towards degree, completion rates, professional development, employment, and administrative functions, provides training sessions and presentations to graduate students as well as offer counseling on topics such as financial aid, employment, housing, transportation, insurance, etc.

  • Organize and oversee recruiting new students, graduate admissions, and fellowship nominations and awards.

  • Advise the Administrative manager on the hiring of Teaching Assistants, Assistant Instructors, Graduate Research Assistants, and similar instructional positions.

  • Process scholarships, fellowships, and tuition payments.

  • Maintain student records; collect and organize data to assess and evaluate graduate program effectiveness, student retention, grade point averages, and academic outcomes.

  • Coordinate student events.

  • Assist Graduate Advisor and Graduate Studies Committee.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five years' experience as a Graduate Coordinator at UT Austin or an equivalent institution. Capacity to work independently without substantial guidance. High standards, professional demeanor, professional communication skills, and the ability to compose accurate and timely correspondence. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish a good working relationship with graduate students. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to organize, prioritize, and report on competing projects. Must be able to set and meet deadlines as well as work regular hours and arrive to work punctually on a routine basis. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, knowledge of university policies and procedures; proficiency in the following UT systems: *DEFINE/*NRRECS/*GSADM, EASI, NRECS, and FRMS; Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in a related field. More than five years of experience administering or coordinating a program, at least three of which involved serving as a graduate coordinator. Experience and familiarity with The University of Texas at Austin, its policies and procedures. Evidence of effective communication skills and attention to detail; demonstrated ability to prioritize and track tasks; strong interpersonal skills; ability to write reports and create planning documents.

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment.Limited supervision from the Graduate Adviser, Department Chair, Dean, or their delegate.
