1st Shift - Toolmaker

The toolmaker is responsible for the production of various tools used within the manufacturing process that ensures safety and quality of the finished product while delivering efficiencies within the processes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Create and repair tools, dies, jigs and fixtures used within the manufacturing process.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequence of operations for fabricating tools.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gage blocks, micrometers and dial calipers.
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify tools using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Setup and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools to ensure that parts meet specification; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve manufacturing issues related to the tool.
  • Adopt and incorporate quality methods into their work (training offered).
  • Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
  • Account for time and work completed via a labor reporting system.
  • Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and completed work.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Positive and Strong work ethic.
  • Report and document basic material, production and quality control issues.
  • Maintain performance log books on assigned area equipment, report deficiencies to the maintenance group.
  • Participate in equipment maintenance at the operator level.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required, certificate from college or technical school desirable.
  • Three to five years of tool room experience (desired, but not required)
  • 1+ years CNC programming and operation experience (desired but not required)
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of all tool room related equipment and methods (training offered).
  • High competence in dimensional measuring and the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawing aids.
  • Ability to work with various types of materials.
  • Flexible and responsive with a strong teamwork orientation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
  • Strong orientation toward quality, safety and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced environment to meet team expectations.
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy of work performed.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
  • Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures.
