Structural Group, Inc and its subsidiary companiesdevelop and integrate proprietary products and specialty engineering services, to create highly engineered solutions that sustain and enhance infrastructure across a broad range of end user markets. We serve owners and managers of infrastructure, as well as designers, engineers, and general contractors, across the U.S. and in selected international markets.

We are currently seeking an attorney to assume a leadership role within our legal department to support our growth and to develop the next generation of leadership within the department. The position will include leadership of part or all of the department's major functions, which are contract management and construction claims support and management. The position may include responsibility for other subject areas, including acquisitions and other strategic transactions, real estate, intellectual property, licensing and corporate governance and other areas, based upon the successful candidate's experience and interests.

This position will be based in ourBaltimore/Washington D.C. headquarters, located in Columbia, Maryland. As an attorneyfor Structural Group, you will be accountable for supporting the contracting, claims support and other legal needs for Structural Group'sbusiness lines.

The primary functions the successful candidate will lead are:

  • Reviewing, analyzing and negotiating Company contracts to ensure compliance with Company's guidelines for contract review, corporate policies and project requirements. These contracts include, but are not limited to, construction contracts, purchase orders, service agreements and tiered subcontract agreements. Significant components of that function include:
    • Identifying risks and issues associated the terms and conditions of all assigned bids and contracts
    • Maintaining a contracts database and monitoring agreement expiration dates.
    • Supporting the department's non-attorney staff with their contract management roles.
    • Assisting Business Development and Estimating personnel with proposal preparation and reviewing bid documents.
  • Supporting all aspects of contract dispute resolution, including contract analysis and preparing demands/responses regarding claims, assisting with litigation management and other dispute resolution.
  • Participating in initiatives to establish, implement and improve department procedures.

Successful candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this position:

  • Juris Doctor
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to assume the desired leadership role.
  • At least 7-10 years' experience drafting and negotiating contracts typically encountered in the construction industry, including owner contracts, subcontracts (both as contractor and subcontractor), engineering services agreements and other similar consulting agreements, and teaming agreements, and construction litigation and/or construction claims resolution/management. Experience in industries with similar contracting needs will be favorably considered.
  • Working understanding of commercial insurance common in the construction industry ispreferred.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
