Overview

The Research Exercise Physiologist will perform physiological testing per clinical research protocol and GCP/ICH and maintain the Research Exercise Physiology Core Lab. Includes scheduling research subjects; collecting, analyzing and reporting test data; research billing; maintaining all exercise lab equipment; and reporting core usage metrics. Assists Principal Investigators with incorporation of physiological testing in clinical research. Maintains appropriate training and credentialing. Provides additional support to the Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab as needed.

Responsibilities

1. Perform various physiological tests, including cardiopulmonary assessments and cardiac rehabilitation sessions, under physician supervision per clinical research protocol and GCP/ ICH.\

    Schedule physiological testing for research subjects
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret physiological test data under physician supervision and report results to clinical research study team
  • Complete clinical trial Source Documents or Case Report Forms as needed
  • Ensure research billing process is completed correctly

2. Maintain Research Exercise Physiology Core Lab.

  • Maintain all exercise lab equipment, including performing evaluation, calibration, and preventative maintenance
  • Write and maintain Core Lab policies and SOPs. Ensure that all staff using the Core Lab are trained in and follow the policies and SOPs
  • Keep testing protocols and normal/predictive values current with American Heart Association (AHA), The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) published guidelines and policies
  • Track and report Core Lab usage and budget metrics to Heart Center Director of Translational Research and Cardiovascular Research Program Manager

3. Assist Principal Investigators with incorporation of physiological testing in clinical research.

  • Provide project planning, protocol drafting, and budget development with respect to physiological testing procedures
  • Provide written explanation of data analyses and results for grant proposals and research publication

4. Maintain appropriate training and credentialing in the following:

  • Human Subjects Research b. GCP/ICH
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) e. JACHO, EOC

5. Provide additional support to the Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab as needed.

  • Perform clinically ordered physiological testing, including cardiopulmonary assessments, and analyze and interpret test results under Medical Director supervision
  • rovide clinically ordered inpatient/outpatient cardiac rehab/exercise therapy for patients, including consultation and at-home exercise program prescriptions


Qualifications

Reports to: Program Manager

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Master's degree in exercise physiology or related fields or equivalent degree/experience.

2. Clinical credentialing in ACLS and PALS.

3. Clinical Research training.

4. Experience in running and maintaining an exercise physiology lab, including performing clinical testing and providing results.

5. Excellent communication skills.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit.
