JOB TITLE: Extension Educator, Asst.-Northern Plains Climate Hub Fellow JOB PURPOSE: University of Wyoming (UW) Extension has an immediate opening for a Northern Plains Climate Hub Fellow (Fellow) to work on agricultural resiliency in cropland and rangeland systems. The Fellow will join a team of UW specialists and educators, in collaboration with the USDA Northern Plains Climate Hub, to focus on enhancing the climate resilience of rural, agricultural communities in Wyoming. This work will involve increasing the weather and climate capacity of Extension professionals and other local technical service providers who serve those communities, by building climate literacy; facilitating knowledge exchange; and translating and extending existing research and extension efforts. The Fellow will also work in collaboration with the project team to translate weather and climate data into impacts to the cropland and rangeland systems prevalent in Wyoming. This is a three-year position funded by a USDA NIFA project whose goal is to increase weather and climate awareness, preparedness, and response within the Wyoming agricultural community. The successful candidate will be supervised by Windy Kelley (Drought Resilience Specialist with UW Extension and Regional Extension Program Coordinator for the Northern Plains Climate Hub) and Kristi Hansen (UW Extension Water Resource Economics Specialist), and work with colleagues across the UW campus and UW Extension network. The salary is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The anticipated start date is January 6, 2025 but is negotiable. The successful applicant could be stationed at a county Extension office, a Research & Extension Center, or on the main UW campus in Laramie. Travel within Wyoming will be required. The Fellow will work with other Extension professionals as a part of the University's educational outreach system. In keeping with the University's status as a land-grant institution, Extension professionals form an essential link between the people of Wyoming and the teaching, research, and service missions of the University. The primary function of these employees is to provide non-credit education to an off-campus clientele. Extension professionals provide Wyoming youth, adults, and communities with life-long learning opportunities, especially through the application of research-supported information and leadership skills in the areas of agriculture and natural resources.
