What You'll Do:

Promote Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.

Manage Employee Relations. Provide strong leadership, training, team building, and supervision to all Technical Service employees within the area in order to support both the sales and operational functions of the business. Provide guidance on all recruitment, training, development, and retention strategies for employees.

Industry Best Practices. Person possesses working knowledge of aggregate, asphalt and ready mix concrete plant operations and extensive knowledge of ASTM, DOT and AASHTO testing procedures. Person must be knowledgeable in product related specifications and finished products.

Maintain Compliance. Ensure that all assigned Technical Service labs are in compliance with Vulcan's safety and operations policies and procedures along with meeting all AGC/IDOT testing procedures. Ensure that materials are in accordance with specifications and quality standards set forth by all agencies and not limited to IDOT, INDOT, WSDOT, Illinois Tollway Authority, CDOT and FAA.

Manage Process Improvement. Direct process improvement goals and objectives for assigned plants in order to improve productivity and efficiency through plant studies, optimization studies or other means to improve profitability. Establish and measure performance standards for technical support groups. Establish procedures to improve gradation and quality consistency of all products.

Ensure Economic Profit. Manage the annual budget process. Work with plant management to help ensure plants will meet or exceed budget goals and objectives. Support the sales and operation team by creating new products to gain market share and to eliminate non inventory material.

Coach and Guide Others. Provide strong leadership skills by motivating and mentoring all employees. Set performance standards for employees and monitor performance.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Expect to have strong working relationships with the authorities that define and measure compliance with the specifications for the aggregates, concrete and asphalt industries. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the technical and operations personnel of Vulcan's key customers.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Experience. Experience in quality control testing of Aggregates, Asphalt or Concrete.

Education. Engineering or other Related Technical degree. Professional License or ability to obtain license in four years preferred.

Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and guidance to employees, both direct and indirect reports. Must be able to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.

Technical Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of construction materials to include aggregates, ready-mix concrete, and/or Hot Mix asphalt, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.

Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.

Financial Knowledge. Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets.

Flexibility. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
