What is the opportunity?

The Group Risk Management organization is expanding our privacy risk management team to include a Senior Manager, Privacy Risk. Our team ensures that RBC's US Business Segments are equipped to meet all business and regulatory requirements and client expectations in relation to Privacy Risk Management. The Senior Manager, Privacy Risk will be an integral part in strategically planning, overseeing, and managing complex enterprise-wide initiatives as part of RBC's ongoing plan to improve governance across our RBC US Business Segments. In this role you will oversee day-to-day operations of the firm's Privacy work with business segment privacy officers to ensure consistent application of enterprise standards.

What will you do?

  • Provide 2LOD oversight and challenge to the 1LOD risk owners in RBC US Business Segments' and Functions' privacy risk management activities
  • Lead a coordinated, client centric approach to Privacy Risk Management compliance across RBS US Business Segments and Functions to ensure local oversight processes are aligned and consistent with the Enterprise Privacy Risk Management strategy
  • Ensure RBC US Business Segments and Functions are equipped to meet all business and regulatory requirements and expectations, governing law, and other applicable laws in relation to Privacy Risk Management, including support for key principles such as accountability, consent, safeguarding, integrity, availability, authentication, traceability, and appropriate use of information and information systems.
  • Provide a consolidated view of Privacy Risk Management risks and practices in order to demonstrate consistency with most stringent applicable requirements
  • Provide central point of contact for Privacy Risk Management for US Business Segments and Functions
  • Work width the relevant business stakeholders to ensure privacy regulatory and policy matters are well understood by identifying and escalating execution gaps and ensuring compliance through issues management
  • Lead and provide support to enterprise-wide initiatives to evolve the Global Privacy Program
  • Monitor and manage regulatory developments in the US and applicable international jurisdictions; and initiate strategies to deal with emerging issues with regards to Privacy Risk Management
  • Promote and maintain positive regulatory relationships and be a key point of contact for privacy Regulators engaging the US businesses on regulatory compliance issues, exams, investigations and inquiries
  • Liaise with second line centers of governance (including Chief Data Office, Operational Risk Management, Third Party Risk) as needed
  • Lead the completeness of RCM activities (Universe, trigger events, risk assessments, controls and related monitoring and testing) across the enterprise entries for Privacy Risk, including tracking of upcoming regulations
  • Lead the identification and response to Privacy Risk Management requirements (IAS, RCSA, MICR) and participate in RCSAs where Privacy and Information Management is a key risk
  • Oversee escalated complaints, and liaise with Management, provide guidance on file and complaints management, including employee matters

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Extensive experience facilitating privacy risk assessment, providing advisory oversight, managing regulatory compliance, and handling of privacy risk related "incidents", "issues", "breaches", "complaints", or "events"
  • Deep knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for Privacy Risk Management for financial institutions
  • Proven experience with one or more regulators (OCC, SEC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, NYSDFS)
  • Experience communicating and interacting with one or more regulatory agencies, including exam management and other regulatory affairs (OCC, SEC, FDIC, The Federal Reserve, NYSDFS)
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with a strategic mindset and demonstrated ability to impact and influence
  • Deadline-driven and results-oriented; able to meet consistently high-quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

Nice-to-have

  • CIPP Certification preferred or willingness to complete within 1 year
  • Ability to facilitate between and influence key decision makers

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $110,000 - $190,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
