You could make a difference in advancing our mission at The Jackson Laboratory as a Capital Project Manager based out of our Bar Harbor, Maine campus as part of the Facilities Engineering & Capital Projects team! We are also adding a $5,000 sign-on bonus to this opportunity with JAX and relocation assistance is available!

This full-time professional role will be responsible for managing capital projects from programming through close-out, with primary focus on renovations and new construction across our four campuses with budgets ranging from $20k - $20M. Projects will include vivarium, wet labs, dry labs, office workspaces, industrial buildings, site improvements, and other campus-wide projects located on any of our sites across the U.S. The successful candidate will develop project needs with clients and stakeholders and oversee designers, engineers, contractors, and other resources to assure successful delivery and closeout of each project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • *Acts as Project Manager on comprehensive design and construction capital projects. Works with clients/stakeholders to establish project scope, schedule, and budget constraints. Accountable for project programming, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out and for meeting established project schedule, financial, and communications goals. Leads in-house design for small-scale projects, working with the full Engineering team on the design development. Procures, directs, oversees, reviews, and approves work of external architectural/engineering design and planning consultants for mid to large scale projects; ensures that architectural & engineering designs are consistent with contract specifications and all relevant regulations, internal facility requirements, and engineering codes & standards.
  • Provides technical support for other Project Managers and Facilities Operations and Maintenance in area of expertise providing peer review and guidance during conceptual design, construction document development, construction, and/or commissioning phases for maintenance, repair, renovation, or new construction projects
  • Conducts planning and feasibility studies for potential projects
  • Responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of maintaining design and construction standards for all JAX locations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture; Architectural Engineering; Interior Design; Civil Engineering; Structural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Construction Management or similar discipline.
  • 5+ years minimum experience required as a Project Manager.
  • Knowledge, experience, and a successful track record in the management of capital projects in an institutional setting from programming through construction with project delivery under budget and on schedule.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design of new buildings and renovation of existing buildings, including building systems and/or site and landscape elements.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards including IBC, NFPA, and OSHA.
  • Knowledge and experience in the planning, design and/or construction of vivarium and wet lab spaces is desired.
  • Ability to self-organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments through organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Travel to other sites a few times annually, as appropriate for management of projects at those sites.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of computers and related software including MS Office required.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project and e-Builder are strongly desired.
