Position Summary The University of New Mexico ("UNM") School of Law invites applications for full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Indian Law. Entry-level and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply. Courses taught by these professors could include basic and advanced Federal Indian Law, the legal systems of sovereign tribal nations, and international indigenous law, as well as the intersection of Indian Law with other practice areas. We seek candidates with scholarly distinction or promise, as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching. UNM's Law and Indigenous Peoples Program, of which these faculty members will be a part, includes: (1) an Indian Law Certificate Program, which allows students to specialize in Indian Law; (2) the Southwest Indian Law Clinic, in which student attorneys represent indigenous clients, tribes, and organizations serving indigenous communities; and (3) the Tribal Law Journal, a student-edited journal publishing scholarship on the law of tribal nations and indigenous communities worldwide. Experienced candidates might also have the opportunity to direct the Law and Indigenous Peoples Program. UNM School of Law has one of the highest percentages of Native American students and faculty in the country and is also nationally recognized for innovative skills-based and doctrinal classes and a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio. We value candidates from varied backgrounds and perspectives in order to enhance student learning and the faculty's mission of research, teaching, service, and community engagement in New Mexico, the United States, and the world.
