Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Water Resources Engineer in Knoxville, TN, you will work on complex projects involving innovative urban stormwater management and natural surface water systems, including sustainable green infrastructure planning studies, urban stormwater infrastructure design and infrastructure, flood mitigation studies, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis including dam breach studies and floodplain mapping, stream restoration, surface water, watershed, and stormwater runoff monitoring/modeling, industrial and construction site NPDES permitting support and inspections, & Clean Water Act regulatory support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Directing multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Performing and overseeing detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies;
  • Developing innovative green infrastructure solutions for the urban environment;
  • Applying innovative hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, from 1-D to 3-D transport models;
  • Floodplain mapping and flood protection designs;
  • In-stream and urban stormwater water quality monitoring and modeling;
  • Field investigations and construction support services;
  • Developing construction documents, including engineering drawings and technical specifications;
  • Preparing erosion and sediment control designs;
  • Interacting with client representatives;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 30%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree in environmental or civil engineering, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.) (required), and CPESC, CPSWG (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of research or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as EPA-SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
