Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Scientist or Engineer in Reno, Nevada. The role involves leading and assisting our growing water resource engineering and management team. The position's responsibilities include identifying and spearheading business development opportunities in Nevada's water resources. It will also contribute to various current and future projects across the Western United States. In this role, you will interact with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals throughout the U.S. and will provide leadership and client development specifically in water resources, water supply reliability, planning, and regulatory compliance for clients primarily within the Water and Mining Sectors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

    Developing, leading, and managing water resource engineering and management studies, including water banking, water rights, water planning, and mining water related services;
  • Leading business development for Nevada water resources opportunities, staff development, recruiting, and mentoring;
  • Leading client and agency interactions, including presenting technical information to state and local agencies and the public;
  • Evaluating surface water hydrology, groundwater, water quality, and water demand data in the context of water supply management and mine water related issues;
  • Conducting field investigations, including estimation of water use, well inspections, streamflow monitoring, and a range of related activities to support water resource and mine permitting projects;
  • Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables;
  • Managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management;
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to earn repeat business;
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, natural resources science, watershed sciences, environmental management, or environmental science with an emphasis on water resources or a closely related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree in engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, natural resources science, watershed sciences, environmental management, or environmental science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G., CPESC, CPSWG). (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of experience in the water resources field in the United States, preferably in the Southwest U.S.; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience in one or more water-related disciplines, including , and mine water/permitting issues. (required)
  • Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel on a limited basis. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
