Job Description

Basic Function & Responsibilities:

Provide supervision, technical support, and training in the operation, installation, fabrication, and maintenance of precision technical, mechanical, and electronic equipment and industrial scale metals manufacturing equipment as needed. Assist in the supervision of student work in the lab. Provide precision machining and technical support for Faculty/Staff/Students. Design of research components, methods, and development of new technical and lab techniques/safety measures.

Job Functions:

  • Assist in the Installation, operation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of shop and lab equipment such as high temperature metals melting and heat treatment furnaces, analytical equipment, and industrial-scale manufacturing equipment
  • Fabrication of highly specialized devices and test specimens for use in research projects
  • Responsible for all SARDI laboratories including working with physical facilities on building systems, layout and functions
  • Help support and maintain instrumentation, electrical, and controls-related systems
  • Assist faculty and students with designs for research projects and special equipment, many of which are unique and one of a kind
  • Supervise and train students and staff on the operation of laboratory equipment and lab technical and safety techniques and protocol
  • Maintain computer software related to research and education and provide instruction on the use of the software
  • Provide training and instruction on the operation of electron and optical microscopes
  • Coordinate and schedule use of laboratory equipment and instrumentation for research and teaching. Address and/or resolve scheduling conflicts
  • Additional duties: maintain equipment and consumables inventory lists, assist in the set-up for special occasions, review account and purchase requisitions
  • Safety Representative for SARDI labs. ensures that the labs and research areas are well maintained in accordance with safety requirements
  • Ensures that labs are in compliance with EHS regulations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years experience from which comparable knowledge and skills is necessary
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of industrial manufacturing equipment, vacuum systems, PLC controllers, electronics and mechanical skills
  • Machine shop skills (milling, turning, welding, etc. and custom manufacturing)
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $21.42-$29.41 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
