Position Summary

We are seeking a highly committed individual
to join a research laboratory of Dr. Olga Ponomarova. Our team works on
uncovering functional connections between central metabolism and organismal
physiology. The ideal candidate will assist in conducting experiments and
support day-to-day laboratory operations. The Research Laboratory Technician 2
will learn to work with microorganisms and nematodes (C. elegans) under
the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. Applicants that want to
advance their knowledge of metabolism, biochemistry, and genetics are
encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:
Conduct experiments following established protocols
Optimize new experimental procedures
Accurately record and analyze data
Assist with day-to-day laboratory operations,
troubleshoot problems, maintain equipment and supplies, maintain a safe
and clean laboratory environment
Train new lab members
Assist with other research tasks

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

- Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, specific to the requirements of the position;
- Research oriented specific to Metabolic Pathways;
- Experience with bacterial culture, PCR, cloning, biochemical assays;
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and equipment;
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
