PLEASE
NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM,
approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The
University of New Mexico Gallup Branch, Office of the Director of Business
Operations, invites applications for an Accountant 1, 2, or 3 (depending on
education and experience).

This position will work collaboratively with the
Director of Business Operations in, but not limited to, performing basic and
advanced accounting functions such as ledger/fund analysis, cost analysis, fund
reconciliation, posting, and fiscal control of inventory. Analyzing and
preparing complex financial reports from standard operating statistics,
financial data and/or projections. Investigating and resolving problems related
to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices. Aiding in the
development, implementation and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and
procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques. May serve as
unit/area transaction initiator or requisitioner and as back-up for payroll
time entry and cashiering. Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as
assigned.

Minimum Qualifications are as follows:

  • Accountant 1 - Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.
  • Accountant 2 - Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Accountant 3 - Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or
    Master's degree in Accounting or Business with an accounting emphasis
  • Experience
    working in an institution of Higher Education
  • Experience
    working with UNM financial programs such as MyReports, Banner, EPrints,
    EPAFs, Budget & Salary Planner and Budget Cat System
  • Proficient in
    MS Excel to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare reports
  • Knowledge of
    University Policy/Procedures and applicable local, state, and federal
    guidelines
  • Demonstrated
    ability to effectively communicate financial information and compliance
    requirements to staff, faculty, leadership, and other professionals
  • Ability to
    initiate various accounting transactions (Journal Entries, Labor
    Distributions)
  • Experience
    preparing financial projections and budgeting
