Job Summary:

The Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) is recruiting an exceptional board- certified or board-eligible otolaryngologists with fellowship training in pediatric otolaryngology to join the division as a Pediatric Otolaryngologist. We are looking for applicants with a track record of, or early career interest in, clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training, practice experience, research scholarship, teaching and execution of scholarly activities.

This position involves joining a burgeoning section of pediatric otolaryngologists with tremendous opportunities for growth clinically and in all arms of the academic mission.

Clinical resources and opportunities include:
Practice site is the UW Healths American Family Childrens Hospital (AFCH) in Madison, WI.
AFCH is a world-class childrens medical and surgical center with a pediatric intensive care unit a neonatal intensive care unit, a widely recognized transplant surgery program, a childrens cancer center and consecutively ranked for over 10 years among the nations best childrens hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
The section of pediatric otolaryngology practices a wide breadth of complex pediatric otolaryngology, including advanced airway surgery, cochlear implantation, and ex utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT) procedures
Pediatric Otolaryngology faculty participate in UW Health supported multi-disciplinary clinics including: Craniofacial Abnormalities Clinic (CFAC), Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinics Team (PACT), Pediatric Tracheostomy Clinic, and Birthmarks and Vascular Anomalies Clinic.
Significant potential for continued program growth is anticipated and desired.
Dedicated pediatric audiologists and speech-language-voice pathologists

The Division of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at UW SMPH
The Division of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery has 31 faculty members who provide clinical expertise in head & neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, otology-neurotology-lateral skull base surgery, comprehensive otolaryngology, laryngology, rhinology-skull base surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery across the UW Health hospital system and William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Division provides full-spectrum otolaryngology care for adults and children at six clinical practice sites in the Madison area and six outreach sites across Wisconsin and Illinois.

Education within the division includes a commitment to medical student education, an ACGME accredited residency program of 15 residents, and fellowships in Head & Neck Oncologic and
Reconstructive Surgery and Laryngology.

The Division currently has 29 active extramural grants with a total budget of over $25 million, as well as collaborations with related programs across the University of Wisconsin campus such as the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), the Waisman Center, and through the Head & Neck Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) funding.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Activity (70%): We seek a pediatric otolaryngologist with interest, skill, and enthusiasm in the care of pediatric otolaryngology-HNS patients, and to work collaboratively with colleagues in other departments in the tertiary care of complicated pediatric patients

The applicant should have command of the core knowledge and understanding of medical sciences relevant to these regions and advanced diagnostic and medical and surgical management skills for pediatric patients with complex otolaryngologic disorders.

The applicant is expected to work collaboratively and inclusively within and across related fields including pediatric surgery, pediatric transplant, pediatric pulmonology and with colleagues within the division and department. Clinical out-patient practices are supported by two ambulatory Advance Practice Providers. Occasional otolaryngology on-call coverage and regional outreach clinical commitments are shared amongst all faculty.

Research program (30%): The successfully recruited surgeon on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track will also participate in or develop/continue robust original and high-quality lines of research inquiry. The applicant will conduct research activities that may draw on numerous available collaborators. Deep research infrastructure support, including patient reported outcomes research, includes access to research cores in Clinical Trials Research, Qualitative Research, Statistical Analysis and Research Programming, and Histology as well as broad support of grant writing and the application process, grant compliance and grant management.

Adjustments to this dedicated percentage of time can be made based on the funding needs and successful applicant's line of scientific inquiry.

Education: Faculty in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery share a commitment to education at the levels of medical student, resident training, and continuing medical education. Clinical and sub-intern UWSMPH medical students and resident physicians in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery are included in daily clinical activities.

Service and Leadership: The successful applicant will be an active participant in regional and national professional associations.

Academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, and residents. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License and must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges within the UW Health network.

Specialization must include eligibility or certification in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) or by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (AOBOOHNS); and have completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship training program or equivalent.
