Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of the
HVAC Commissioning Technician role entails
commissioning HVAC systems with some minor repairs and managing building automation systems campus-wide. The incumbent will help develop and
implement strategies to reduce energy consumption in campus facilities as well as strategies to monitor reductions in energy use after project completion. This position must also have a thorough understanding of the
software engineering tools required to manipulate, configure, and commission building control systems.
Key Responsibilities and Duties Include, but not limited to:
- Troubleshoot and repair advanced HVAC control systems
- Commission existing, renovated, and new building HVAC/mechanical systems
Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption in campus facilities- Maintain and repair the operation of DDC controls, heating, cooling, central chilled water/steam systems, steam/hot water boilers, and boiler auxiliary equipment
- Supervise the repair of building automation systems, integrated packaged mechanical systems, and associated controls across the campus
- Perform new systems start up and commissioning and interact with contractors and commissioning agents to verify systems are installed and operate as required
- Coordinate and establish building systems schedules and operating parameters
- Verify readings, measurements, air, and water flow values to ensure proper operation
- Utilize engineering software to interpret the status of HVAC mechanical and control systems
- Document the various activities accomplished at each system using a variety of spreadsheets, word processing software, and PDFs

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Associate's Degree in the assigned discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications |
- Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for building automation and HVAC systems
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with building automation and HVAC systems in a facilities operations environment
- Experience in a facilities operations environment developing competence to include commissioning complex HVAC systems, lab environmental control systems, and mechanical systems
- Prefer building automation system design and operation skills and operations/controls experience in a central energy plant environment
