What you will do:

Job Description:

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will be responsible for providing speech therapy services and elements of patient/client care management leading to optimal outcomes according to the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association Scope of Practice. The Speech Therapist works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in the areas of education and consultation regarding patient care needs in accordance to the mission and vision of Gundersen Health System as an outpatient, inpatient, and swing bed facility.

Major Responsibilities

1. Works with patient and families to examine, evaluate, diagnose, prognose while providing individualized intervention and education utilizing task analysis based on identified learning needs of the patient to ensure optimal patient care.

2. Interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professions, communicates value of speech therapy services.

3. Responsible for completing documentation according to established departmental standards to enhance effective patient care and proper reimbursement.

4. Meets standards of practice according to federal, state, and professional association guidelines.

5. Maintains and achieves proficiency in departmental competencies.

6. Teaches and counsels individuals, families, groups, and community.

7. Participates in departmental and multidisciplinary review of process, treatment, or systems issues for quality improvement initiatives.

8. Pursues relevant educational opportunities to maintain or enhance professional knowledge and meet departmental needs. May be responsible for coordinating and overseeing speech-language pathology student education as requested by supervisor.

9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Work Experience:

DESIRED

1-3 years of experience in medical adult/geriatric Speech-Language Pathology. Video fluoroscopic swallow study training/experience.

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Speech Language Pathology License in state of practice.

ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology within 18 months of hire after 1 year fellowship.

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
