Position Summary:

This position will be part of the xEV Drive Unit team for Electric Vehicle products and will be responsible for the Drive Unit and Motor Production facility. The primary purpose of this position is to develop immediate, annual and long-term comprehensive knowledge of EHS & Sustainability programs. Applies and uses engineering controls to control hazards and reduce risks. Detailed understanding of general industry standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. Includes knowledge of basic health and safety concepts such as hazard and risk assessment, personal protective equipment, behavior-based safety, machine/equipment safety, etc. This position offers opportunities to work with a wide variety of departments and levels of management within the company both domestic and international.

Essential functions of this job include:

  • Health and Safety Professional Knowledge (Including Regulatory Compliance)

  • Environmental health & Safety Management System implementation and compliance

  • Risk management - identification of hazards and mitigation

  • Incident Investigation including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions

  • Project management for EH&S department and plant projects

  • Communication and Influence on all levels of organization for EH&S messages

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 2 years of EHS experience as EHS professional or in manufacturing environment

  • Solid knowledge of EHS regulations as they apply to manufacturing

  • Experience in Energy Management and Waste Reduction

  • Knowledge of computer systems and spreadsheets necessary to perform job duties

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience and Skills)

  • AS or BS Degree in Engineering, Science or related EHS field from ABET accredited university.

  • 5 years of Sustainability experience either as Sustainability professional or in manufacturing environment

  • Environmental Regulations (RCRA, Clean Air/air permitting, NPDES, EPCRA)

Essential to Job Functions - Physical and/or Mental Restrictions:

  • Ability to work for extended periods of time while sitting

  • Standing, walking and bending for the duration of the workday

  • Visual ability to work accurately with detailed information and a computer screen

Software:

  • Advanced proficiency in Windows, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Production and Location Start-up Duties:

  • Work within small team to develop new manufacturing location and new processes to support smooth mass production start-up of EV products

  • Develop and maintain Astemo EH&S systems within shared facility and in compliance with shared company requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of flexibility and be able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities

  • Ability to promote and exemplify the "Astemo Philosophy" and maintain a clean and orderly work environment in accordance with "6S."

  • Proven ability to:

  • Make sound business decisions, exercise good judgment, and maintain high level of motivation

  • Confer with and prepare reports and presentations for upper management and possibly other Astemo companies

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations within areas of responsibility Interacts with various levels of associates

  • Analyze technology, resource needs, market demand, and confers with all departments to assess feasibility of projects

  • Coordinate and recommend cost savings and efficiency ideas for the facility

  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of organization needed

  • Manage the chemical safety program and maintain safety and industrial health programs to prevent, correct, or control unsafe conditions and ensure compliance.

  • Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety requirements have been included.

  • Assist with the design or selection of safety devices for machinery or safety clothing and work with appropriate personnel to direct installation of safety devices on machinery.

  • Conduct or coordinate training of workers concerning safety laws and regulations, use of safety equipment, devices, clothing and first aid, etc.

  • Thoroughly and accurately investigate causes of industrial accidents or injuries to develop solutions to minimize or prevent recurrence.

  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Conduct or direct, plant or area, surveys or tests to determine safety levels and/or compliance for exposure to materials and conditions.

  • Requires 5% travel
