Development Buyer/Planner (Marine Systems)
Position Profile:
This position is responsible for all tasks relative to the internal scheduling of materials and services within the machine shop as well as purchase orders for material outsourced to suppliers. These efforts are primarily required to support qualification and development work orders for the Marine Business Unit. Internal activities include but are not limited to, managing work orders to support MRP and non MRP requirements, product development, follow through on all nonconforming material matters and the timely and accurate processing, follow up, rescheduling of all work orders and system maintenance. External activities include the outside sourcing of materials and services based on MRP and customer requirements. Should have a thorough understanding of machining, drawings, and a technical background. This position reports to the Director of Development, dotted line to the purchasing and planning functions.
Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience (planning, purchasing, engineering, machine shop)in fast pace mixed product manufacturing
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing principles
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems, planning, and scheduling activities
  • Working knowledge of machining/machine shops
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, etc.
  • Strong computer literacy, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Must be a US Citizen



Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Ability to read/interpret drawings, BOM's and SOW's
  • Generate work orders and purchase orders for required material or services primarily for Development and Qualification requirements.
  • Create requisitions and purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Manage work order material flow from inception through completion.
  • Manage component shortages to resolution.
  • Work closely with all functional areas of the business.
  • In collaboration with sourcing team, develop new suppliers as needed and manage outside machines shops for development materials.
  • Perform planning and production tasks, anticipate program needs, and expedite material and tool requirements.
  • Lead issue resolution when products are behind schedule or at risk of being behind schedule.
  • Own development and qualification orders from start to finish.
  • Interface with manufacturing, engineering, quality, purchasing and management to provide timely status of work products and / or problem identification and resolution.
  • Maintain the ERP system integrity to drive material and production schedules and execute processes per requirements.
  • Maintain ERP system parameters including material master data and performance criteria.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and collaborate with shop team to understand capacity including make/buy analyses and obtain best pricing possible.
  • Measure supplier and shop performance to ensure meet quality and delivery goals.
  • Support transition of Development programs to Production.



Additional Duties / Responsibilities Specific to Marotta's Development processes:


  • Understanding of customer requirements and flow downs to shop and outside suppliers
  • Coordinate timely disposition of NCR's and support all QA activities to communicate non conformance and corrective actions with suppliers and the shop.
  • Collaborate with Program Management to ensure tools are lined up to begin ordering hardware, such as WBS numbers, stock locations.
  • Works with Purchasing Group to ensure purchase orders are created correctly and communicated effectively with supplier.
  • Review ECN dispositions for correctness and do impact analysis for ECNs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure parts meet the level of traceability required based on program requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality to ensure flow downs are correct on work orders and purchase orders.

  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals.
  • Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed)
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.



Work Environment:


  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection (as required).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration.
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 4 X 10 hours on site Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • 25% travel is expected for this position.



Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

This position is at our Montville, NJ corporate offices location.
