Job Description

Assistant Professor of Music Therapy

The Assistant Professor of Music Therapy will teach undergraduate and graduate music therapy courses within the Music Education and Music Therapy Area, including coursework in areas of interest and specialty as needed; recruit and retain high caliber students at both the undergraduate and graduate level; sustain a national professional profile (including activity in research and publication) that reflects the career of a consistently productive scholar; contribute to all facets of the Music Education and Music Therapy Area and the Conservatory, including academic, performance, and service components characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; make contributions that enrich the cultural environment and the quality of life in the greater Kansas City metropolitan community.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the requirements for Academic Faculty as stipulated in the American Music Therapy Association "Standards for Education and Clinical Training for Graduate Faculty," and Music Therapy Board Certification is required.

The successful candidate will show evidence of these qualifications:

* Demonstrated successful and innovative experience in teaching music therapy in a university setting;

* Documented successful clinical experience beyond internship (3-5 years minimum preferred);

* Successful clinical supervision experience;

* Evidence of emerging or established productivity as a scholar at the national level;

* Demonstrated ability or clear potential to attract quality undergraduate and graduate music therapy students;

* Evidence of positive contributions within a collaborative setting;

* Strong commitment to teaching and mentorship;

* Earned doctoral degree preferred (ABD considered if degree completed by August, 2025).

Anticipated Hiring Range

This is a 9-month full-time, benefit-eligible tenure-track faculty position. The position is to begin August 2025.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
