Postdoctoral Researcher, Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA:Trace Metal Biogeochemistry the Amundsen Sea, West Antarctica
Postdoctoral research position available immediately at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences, on trace metal dynamics in the Amundsen Sea, in the research group of Dr. Robert Sherrell. The ARTEMISproject, associated with the larger
ITGC collaboration (
thwaitesglacier.org), aims to understand the effect of increased glacial melting on metal biogeochemistry and phytoplankton productivity on this crucial region of the Antarctic shelf, where meltwater input is sufficient to account for 10% of global sea level rise. Analysis of a suite of elements in a large number of dissolved, colloidal and particulate water column samples is planned for 2022 and 2023. Samples may be available for analysis of other variables of interest to important problems of polar biogeochemistry in a changing world. Available laboratory facilities include 5
ICP-MS instruments and all supporting infrastructure for high-quality measurements of low-level trace metals and isotopes in marine samples. The project is highly interdisciplinary, and involves collaboration with UK and Swedish scientists.
