The Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute of Rutgers University is seeking to hire an early career Ph.D. clinical psychologist at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank. The Institute has a 40-year history of multidisciplinary research in the field of environmental and occupational health. The applicant will have opportunities to develop a research program to investigate the mental health and neuropsychological effects of chemical exposures across the life span. Existing cohorts of children with exposures to environmental contaminants such as pesticides and endocrine disruptors offer access to longitudinal data for exploration of effects on neurodevelopmental outcomes. In addition, our World Trade Center first responders, who are evaluated annually in our Clinical Center, is a rich resource for innovative psychological interventions as well as research on the complex relationship between psychological trauma exposures to chemicals and/or environmental stressors (e.g. built environment, violence). Research opportunities in New Jersey, nationally, and internationally include partnerships with local communities to develop approaches that will address environmental justice. Application of psychological science to understand and reduce the undue burdens from poverty, pollutants, and psychological stress is a focus of our community-based research. The Institute is especially interested in qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds who can bring new approaches to address these complex biopsychosocial, environmental influences on health. The applicant will also have an opportunity to serve on our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity initiative.

Opportunities for the advancement of clinical and research skills are available through access to state-of-the-art facilities to include a Clinical center offering consultative services for patients with occupational or environmental exposures. In addition, EOHSI is home to a human controlled environmental facility where health effects of psychological stress and environmental contaminants are interrogated under tightly controlled conditions. Training grants and an NIEHS Center of Excellence offer opportunities for collaborations with students and faculty throughout the University and have pilot grant funds available to spur innovation. .
