The Ophthalmic Technician works up patients for physicians that includes taking medical history, performing initial examination and completing diagnostic testing. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) preferred
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A
Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in an ophthalmology/optometry office
Experience PREFERRED:
Two (2) years of previous experience in an ophthalmology office performing initial examinations and diagnostic testing
Education/training REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/training PREFERRED:
Successful completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant Program
Independent action(s) required:
Takes medical history and performs initial examination and diagnostic testing independently.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A
Additional position requirements:
Must be willing to work at all office locations.
