Job Description

The Immunomodulation and Translational Research Program in the Department of Child Health, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow

The Postdoctoral position will support research projects pursued by the Immunomodulation and Translation Research Program at NextGen. The candidate will conduct studies that use novel biologics to modulate the immune response as a means of inducing tolerance to autoantigens for the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes and alloantigens for sustained survival of pancreatic islets or SC-derived beta cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes in preclinical models. These studies involve cell culture, immune cell proliferation, immune monitoring using flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, PCR, and various rodent manipulations. The applicant will also contribute to the ongoing research by active participation in lab discussions, grant and manuscript submissions, oral presentations at local, national, and international meetings, and training graduate students and technical personnel for desired techniques as needed. In addition, the successful applicant is expected to contribute significant intellectual input to the progress and direction of the research and take the lead on a project.

Qualifications

Must have a Ph.D., MD, or D.V.M. by start of employment.

The position requires a minimum of 3 years of basic laboratory experience and expertise in recombinant DNA technologies, including vector designs, cloning, protein expression and characterization, basic immunology knowledge working with rodents and mamalian tissue culture.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Experience in bioinformatics. Handling mice and performing various manipulations, including injections via different routes, and end-point tissue harvesting.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated durable skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, mindfulness, growth mindset, and fortitude.
  • Confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to the University's values.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, and statistical softwares.
