The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in the Division of Newborn Medicine, is a Level III/IV, 30-bed referral center for critically ill infants requiring complex medical and surgical care. Highly specialized physicians, nurses, and support staff collaborate in the care of critically ill infants and their families. A team from multiple specialties within the hospital provides advanced therapies and family centered care for infants from around the region and the world.

The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients in our Neonatal ICU.
  • Serving as member of multidisciplinary team.
  • Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
  • Working 40 hours per week, including weekends

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  • 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist
  • General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experiencedbased knowledge.
  • Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
  • Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
