EEG Specialist II - CLTM and ICU

The CLTM Technologist will perform a wide variety of electroneurodiagnostic procedures on patients with suspected neurologic injury and disease. The Technologist is responsible for preparation of the patient for long-term testing and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of the test results. The Technologist must demonstrate competence defined (*) as, age-appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21-years, and selected adult patients.

Responsibilities

    Following age-related competencies. *Accurately applying leads according to the International 10:20 System.
  • Adapting recording methods and instrumentation to obtain results based on history, and clinical observation.
  • Recognizing and eliminating artifact and electrical interference in order to obtain high quality tracings.
  • Knowing and understanding EEG, EMG, ECG, respiratory and oximetry patterns, as well as recognition of other physiologic patterns.
  • Having a complete understanding of each instrument and its controls, as well as knowledge of basic electronics and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Displaying each patient's activity in an optimal fashion for clinical interpretation
  • Providing appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient-emergency situations.
  • Participating in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities.
  • Serving as a training instructor for junior staff, technologist trainees, and other medical personnel, and patient family members.
  • Writing a summary of the patient's neurological status and clinical history from the chart, patient, parent, guardian, or other knowledgeable person(s).
  • Explaining the procedure to the patient and/or any family members present.
  • Answering phones, scheduling procedures, and attending to front office responsibilities during periods of high volume or co-worker illness.
  • Facilitating the transportation of equipment and patients as necessary to complete the daily work schedule.
  • Maintaining department records and preparing tracings for storage.
  • Contributing to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program in the institution and department.
  • Maintain CQI records for the lab. Maintaining supplies at a reasonable level and ordering supplies.
  • Processing patient charge information.
  • Maintaining equipment in a calibrated and clean fashion.
  • Distributing a Patient Satisfaction Survey to the patient or parent/guardian.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences or related field perfered
  • Technologist registered by the American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists
  • Certification in Long-term Monitoring (CLTM)
  • Current CPR certificate
  • Proficient in computer operations/technology
