Overview

The Music Therapist assesses patients to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based music therapy interventions that address the psychosocial, developmental, and physiological needs of needs of children experiencing behavioral/mental health concerns children and their families. The therapist provides a variety of music interventions that promote coping, skill development, and self-expression.

Responsibilities

* Uses music therapeutically to provide interactions that enhance development, coping, normalization, self-expression, and family bonding.
* Identifies and modifies treatment based on comprehensive assessment and re-evaluation, with additional consideration for values and preferences. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and co-treatment.
* Appropriately prioritizes workflow and creates documentation, which is timely, pertinent, and compliant with department standards.
* Coordinates, trains, and supervises students during field work/internship experiences.
* Identifies and provides music resources and maintains these resources as safe and accessible. Supports programming that is music focused.
* Acquires continuing education, knowledge, and skills. Remains educated on cultural diversity and develops programming and interventions with unique cultural needs in mind.



Qualifications

Education:
* Bachelor's degree in music therapy required.
* Master's degree, preferred.

Certification:
* Board certification from The Certification Board for Music Therapists (MT-BC) and Ohio state licensure - Licensed Professional Music Therapist (LPMT), required.
* Membership in related professional organizations, preferred.

Skills:
* Strong knowledge of music relevant to the pediatric population and competence in voice, accompanying instruments, and musical skills such as transposition, improvisation, and song writing.
* Ability to adapt developmentally appropriate interventions for the broad range of medical, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the pediatric population.
* Commitment to using the latest evidence-based techniques, methods, technology, and programming.
* Knowledge of research design and methodology.
* Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Experience:
* Experience related to program planning, teaching, and management, preferred.
* Experience in a pediatric health care setting with behavioral health focus, preferred.
* Basic computer skills, required.
