Job Summary

The Electrophysiology Lab is a specialized invasive procedure suite where cardiac electrophysiology procedures are performed on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Electrophysiology technician is an integral part the EP team and is responsible for operating the technical equipment used during complex EP procedures. A strong knowledge base that includes experience in a Cardiovascular Lab setting, operation of Mac Lab, endocardial mapping equipment including but not limited to Biosense Webster and Carto, as well as experience with assisting the physician in the scrub role for pacemaker and ICD implant procedures is required. Technical duties include pre/post procedure preparation, operation of EP monitors and computers, maintains inventory control, and assists in maintaining a safe work environment. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications

  • ACLS Certification within 3 mos of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or UCDH-issued Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • RCES (Registered Electrophysiology Specialist) or RCIS (Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year work experience as an Electrophysiology Technician
  • Ability to perform all roles of the EP Scrub Tech.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology.
  • Working knowledge of EP systems equipment.
  • Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory supplies and their location.
  • Ability to teach safety practices and equipment operational practices.
  • Ability to provide pre- and post-EP teaching explanations of procedures and emotional support to patients and families.
  • Ability to participate in establishing policies and procedures and in on-going CQI program.
  • Ability to provide orientation and instruction to new EP lab staff and teaching to cardiology fellows, nursing students and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or UCDH-issued Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • 2 years work experience as an Electrophysiology Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • 40% - Assists with Performance of all EP Invasive and Interventional Procedures (EPS, ablation, PM, ICD, lead extraction, loop recorder, etc.)
  • 40% - Knowledge of X-Ray/Digital Equipment
  • 10% - Maintains the Quality and Safety of the Work Environment
  • 10% - Provides Pre- and Post-Op Care
