Description

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an Entry Level Engineer to work out of our Bridgeport or Charleston, WV office within our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will be eligible for a sign-on bonus and enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment.

Job Duties:



  • Design bridges and other transportation structures such as overhead sign structures or retaining walls while working closely with a professional engineer. Typical duties include engineering designs and analyses to size structure components and connections; geometric layout of structures; development of bid package documents including quantity and cost estimates; construction plan development; and assembling of construction specifications.
  • Participate in technical and feasibility studies by developing an understanding of appropriate specifications, standards, and design criteria.
  • Serve as a field inspector on NBIS inspection teams in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
  • Obtain and maintain NBIS inspection certification. Contribute to NBIS-related documentation including reports, recommendations, and client communications.
  • Take responsibility for participating in field operations in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Pursue professional development including working toward a professional engineering license.
  • Collaborate with engineering professionals from various departments and disciplines to meet client needs.
  • Use computer engineering programs and CAD to develop detailed designs.
  • Receive and respond to coaching and mentoring by higher-level staff.
  • Occasional seasonal travel for bridge inspection with overnight stays.


Minimum Requirements:



  • Depending on client needs, this position requires local/regional travel, and should be expected to accept occasional travel responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited civil/structural engineering program.
  • Passing score on the FE examination.
  • Self-motivated to ask questions, pursue understanding, and develop professionally.
  • Geometric and computational proficiency.
  • Ability to communicate in technical writing and technical drawing.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation preferred.

  • Possesses foundational engineering concepts through undergraduate-level education.
  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops basic skills through mentored experience.
  • Applies learned knowledge and skills to perform assigned tasks.
  • Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience.

  • Entry / 0+


Education



  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering


Certification/Licensure



  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtained engineer-in-training (EIT) or engineering-intern (EI) certification.


Technical Responsibilities



  • Collects data and gathers information or documents.
  • Participates in laboratory testing and field investigations.
  • Performs basic computations or analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of engineering deliverables.
  • Observes construction activities.


Project and Task Management



  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
  • No managerial responsibilities at this level.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
  • Receives mentorship from a licensed engineer.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership.
  • Interacts primarily with internal project team members.
