Summary:

The Experienced Senior Tax Associate will be a member of our fast-growing Venture Capital ("VC") tax practice team. Sensiba's Venture Capital tax practice is national in scope, serving primarily early-stage venture fund and related entity clients in San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Southern California, as well as in New York, Boston, Chicago, Austin, and elsewhere in the U.S.

As an experienced senior tax associate in the venture capital team, you will be working as a part of a team of problem solvers, helping clients stay on top of the complex compliance requirements of partnership tax as well as guiding them through intricate tax issues in the context of venture capital investing. Additionally, there is substantial exposure to U.S. tax reporting requirements applicable to the existence of non-US investments, investors and entities in investment partnerships. There is also an anticipated rapid learning curve attributable to the opportunity to work with Sensiba's VC tax specialists in providing tax compliance and consulting services to our venture clients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively communicate planning opportunities and facilitates communication internally
  • Actively engaged in managing projects (client service, economics, and profitability); Liaise with tax managers and partners to organize the flow of client work
  • Tax return preparation, review, and research
  • Apply specialized technical expertise and recognizes and communicates planning opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with clients, managers and partners on a wide variety of complex tax and client matters
  • Provide federal, state, and international tax compliance and consulting services to (i) primarily venture capital-related partnerships (and LLCs), and also (ii) with substantially less frequency, for C and S corporations
  • Client interaction, consisting primarily of phone and e-mail contacts, is definitely a significant contemplated activity and a marvelous growth opportunity for the ideal candidate
  • Substantial exposure to U.S. tax reporting requirements applicable to the existence of non-US investments, investors, and entities in investment partnerships
  • Collaborate with a team of VC tax specialists in providing best-in-class client service experience to venture capital clients
  • Participate in training of tax associates and interns, as applicable

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in public accounting with focus on taxation
  • Masters degree in taxation preferred
  • Experience with partnership tax is strongly preferred
  • Experience solving complex tax issues
  • CPA licensed or equivalent (EA, JD, Chartered Accountant)
  • Proven technical skills with MS Office to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Strong knowledge and use of tax compliance and research software (Go Systems, BNA portfolio and projection, CCH, RIA)
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to independently research and solve complex tax and accounting issues and write well-organized memos
  • Strong understanding of current tax code, with expert knowledge of partnership taxation
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and perform at a high level
  • Exceptional client service, communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • Ability to delegate work and train staff
  • Ability to manage complex projects and deliver in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated specialized technical and industry knowledge expertise and committed to further development through personal reading, research and coursework
  • Ability to travel to client locations occasionally for meetings
  • Expert knowledge of work paper referencing
  • Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Compensation Range: $85,000 - $125,000*
