Summary Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming shipments of building material products by performing the following duties. This position is exempt and should only be filled by those individuals who are supervising at least 50% of the time (rather than performing the work of their subordinates) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Studies receiving notices, invoices, orders, and other records to determine receiving priorities, work assignments, and methods required to meet receiving schedules. Oversees incoming receiving activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Inspects unloading operations to ensure safety. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Directs movement of shipments from receiving platform to storage and work areas. Compiles records of unfilled orders. Prepares bills of lading. Issues written and oral instructions. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Controls inventory adjustments. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises employees in the Shipping and Receiving department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory software.
