  • Our new Crisis Services program provide patients and families with timely, effective care during a mental health crisis by initiating care in our EDs for patients who are currently experiencing a menta health crisis, developing a new unit for patients not yet safe to go home, who would benefit from a family-centered, acute crisis intervention, and establish a crisis clinic to provide rapid access to ambulatory treatment.
  • Our new Traverse Academy, a school-based intensive mental health treatment program, within the Cheery Creek School District is slated to open in Fall of 2023. It is an integrated school and intensive outpatient treatment center, including specialized transition programming, for students with significant and impairing emotional and/or behavioral disorders. The program is part of an effort to reduce risk for self-injurious behavior and suicide through collaborative school-academic partnerships and facilitate a smooth transition from intensive treatment to the student's home school.

The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. This faculty position will provide evidence-based care to children and adolescents in multi-disciplinary settings.

Nature of Work

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist must demonstrate clinical experience and excellence with children and adolescents and the ability to manage different acuity levels, including working with children in outpatient, inpatient, emergency department, partial hospitalization, consultation-liaison, and primary and specialty care settings. Faculty serve in our Outpatient Clinic, integrated care with Neurology and Adolescent Medicine, Inpatient, Partial Hospitalization, Eating Disorders, Research, and our North and Colorado Springs locations. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to apply and implement evidence-based approaches to care. A history of teaching and mentoring residents, and medical students, and working with milieu staff is also desired. Scholarly activities are encouraged and supported. The psychiatrist position will serve a diverse population of patients

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:



  • Able to perform initial psychiatric diagnostic interviews, develop and follow through with treatment plans, and maintain timely and focused documentation through the electronic medical record.


  • Ability to apply and implement evidence-based approaches to care including using evidence-based guidelines for prescriptions and monitoring medications in the pediatric population


  • Develop, train, and supervise psychology trainees


  • Carry a caseload on the outpatient psychiatric unit and in the partial hospitalization program.


Supervision Received

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist report to the Medical Director of the Pediatric Mental Health Institute Sandra Fritsch.

Supervision Exercised

The psychiatrist will not supervise other employees.

The position will provide training and mentoring to graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows, etc.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor: $220,000 to $250,000

Associate Professor: $250,000 to $270,000

Professor: $280,000 to $310,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Applicants must possess a Colorado Medical License, DEA Certificate, Board Certified in Psychiatry, or Board eligible in Child Psychiatry within 3 years of hire.
  • Must obtain medical staff privileges within Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Must have prior experience in a Child Psychiatric setting, having completed a child/adolescent residency, academic/residency program-related experience highly desirable.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO
  • 1-7+ years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.


Instructor:1-3 years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.

Senior Instructor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.

Assistant Professor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.

Associate Professor: 4-7 years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.

Professor: 7+ years of related clinical experience at a rank or equivalent experience.



  • Special Skills: Colorado Medical License, DEA Certificate, Board Certified in Psychiatry, and Board eligible in Child Psychiatry within 3 years of hire.


Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks)



  • Clinical experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferred.
  • Leadership and teaching experience valued.
