Job Summary

Receive and consult on VMTH cases relating to urinary and extracorporeal medicine, including patients with upper and lower urinary tract diseases and with diseases requiring treatment with extracorporeal medicine. Will work primarily in the VMTH, which receives approximately 60,000 patients/year. The fellowship includes time for research/study and the potential for collaboration with the UCD Medical School. Depending on interest and availability, the Fellow may have the opportunity to enroll in the American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology Training Programs.

THIS CONTRACT POSITION ENDS ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF HIRE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Board certification (or residency trained) in Internal Medicine in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, or a minimum of 5 years' experience in Internal Medicine.
  • Must possess a University Veterinary License or Full Veterinary License from the state of California.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree.
  • Practice experience in a busy, veterinary clinic practicing high quality medicine.
  • Clinical experience in Infectious Diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience.

  • 70% - URINARY AND EXTRACORPOREAL MEDICINE RECEIVING AND CONSULTATION
  • 15% - DEDICATED TRAINING AND CASE MANAGEMENT IN THE SMALL ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE SERVICE WITH TIME SPENT FOCUSING ON EXTRACORPEAL SERVICES
  • 10% - RESEARCH AND STUDY
  • 5% - EXTERNAL ROTATIONS

Physical Demands

  • Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Handle animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) as required.

Work Environment

  • Work under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
  • Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.
  • May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
  • Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
