FCS Solution Architect / Technical Lead

Our utility client uses the Itron Field Collection System (FCS) to support field meter-reading operations. Field personnel use FC300 handhelds and Itron MC3/MC4 Toughbooks, with Bing Maps for street view and routing. Microsoft ends support for the current Bing Maps version on 11/30/2026, so the existing environments (FCS 4.3.0 for the water business and FCS 4.5.3 for the primary business) will undergo a stepped upgrade to FCS 4.7. A new QA environment will be built and upgraded to 4.7 to validate the solution through Functional, System Integration (SIT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) before production deployment. Scope includes the associated FC300 handhelds, MC3/MC4 Toughbooks, and Bing Maps impacts.

The existing FCS-to-SAP integration continues via Client and MoveIT sFTP. SAP initiates meter-reading requirements by billing cycle. Field staff complete electric/water readings on field devices, and the readings flow through FCS to SAP for downstream billing.
Role Summary
Own the architecture and design of the TO-BE FCS 4.7 solution, including server specifications, and provide technical leadership across the upgrade.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the end-to-end TO-BE architecture for the stepped upgrade to FCS 4.7 across the 4.5.3 and 4.3.0 environments
• Specify server and infrastructure requirements for the new QA environment and production
• Design the approach for upgrading FC300 handhelds and MC3/MC4 Toughbooks, including Bing Maps impacts
• Make and document key technical decisions
• Lead design reviews with the client, project team, and vendors
• Escalate technical issues and risks promptly, and drive them to resolution
• Provide technical guidance to the integration developer and testing team

Must-Have Skills

• Hands-on knowledge of Itron Field Collection System (FCS) and Itron Mobile Collection System
• Proven experience in solution architecture and design for enterprise or utility systems

Nice to Have

• Experience with FCS version upgrades and migrations
• Familiarity with SAP billing integration, Client, and MoveIT sFTP
• Utility (electric/water) meter-to-cash domain knowledge
