Power Systems Division | Used Power Sales

Mustang Cat, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Southeast Texas, is seeking an experienced Shop Service Electrician to support our Used Power Sales team at our Waller facility.

This position focuses on testing, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing diesel and natural gas generator sets, primarily ranging from 250kW to 1,000kW, with occasional work on larger equipment up to 3-4MW.

We are looking for a skilled electrician with strong electrical troubleshooting abilities and hands-on power generation experience. Caterpillar experience is preferred, but experience with Cummins, Kohler, and other generator manufacturers will also be considered.

What You'll Do

• Perform load bank testing, Megger testing, and communication loop testing, and work with low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair diesel and natural gas generator sets, engines, controls, switchgear, and electrical wiring.
• Complete generator and engine preventative maintenance, removal, installation, disassembly, assembly, reconditioning, adjusting, technical analysis, diagnostics, and failure analysis.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and point-to-point drawings.
• Install Class 1 Division 2 conduit and wiring, including enclosure lighting panels.
• Fabricate and install engine harnesses and solder wire connections.
• Install and wire generators, switchgear, controls, conversions, and related components.
• Generate detailed service reports, including failure analysis, descriptions of work performed, service recommendations, and supporting documentation.
• Perform occasional service calls at customer locations during regular and irregular working hours.
• Perform occasional engine mechanical work as needed.
• Complete other shop and field-related electrical duties as required.

Position Requirements

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel and/or natural gas generators and electrical systems.
• Hands-on experience performing load bank testing and electrical diagnostic testing.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical circuits, generator controls, wiring, and electrical components.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience working with Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, or similar power generation equipment.
• Understanding of generator operation, electrical troubleshooting procedures, and safe work practices.
• Ability to independently diagnose equipment issues and perform necessary repairs.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work primarily from our Waller shop with occasional travel to customer locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Caterpillar generator, engine control, or switchgear experience.
• Experience with larger generator sets.
• Knowledge of PLC/HMI systems and generator communication networks.
• Experience installing Class 1 Division 2 conduit and electrical wiring.
• Experience fabricating electrical harnesses and soldering connections.
• Technical school certification or associate degree in a related field.
• Caterpillar technical training or certifications.
• Experience with generator reconditioning or used power generation equipment.
