Company: Global Power Components

Location: Milwaukee, WI (onsite 5 days/week)

Hire Type: Temp-to-Hire (3+ months)

Overview:

Global Power Components is a privately held, growing manufacturer of UL steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures, and modular metal enclosures for housing fully equipped electrical distribution and control equipment. As a result of continued growth and expansion, we are seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter to oversee construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects across our Milwaukee-area manufacturing facilities. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing carpenter and construction crews while also actively performing rough and finish carpentry work.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities for carpenters and construction crew members across multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Assign work, establish priorities, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and technical direction for rough and finish carpentry projects.
  • Inspect buildings and facilities to identify structural, carpentry, and general construction repair needs.
  • Construct, repair, and modify walls, ceilings, doors, windows, floors, partitions, and other building components.
  • Install and repair drywall, framing, doors, pre-hung wood and steel doors, trim, cabinetry, shelving, countertops, and millwork.
  • Perform exterior construction and repair work involving siding, fencing, decking, and other facility structures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, layouts, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate construction activities with internal maintenance personnel, electricians, plumbers, contractors, and other skilled trades.
  • Monitor workmanship and project progress to ensure quality standards and building requirements are met.
  • Identify required materials, tools, equipment, and labor needed to complete projects.
  • Maintain safe, organized work areas and ensure crews follow company safety procedures and applicable building and safety requirements.
  • Assist with training and developing carpenter and construction crew members.
  • Provide project updates and communicate scheduling, material, or construction issues to management.
  • Remain actively involved in construction and carpentry work rather than functioning solely in a supervisory capacity.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional carpentry or construction experience, including extensive rough and finish carpentry experience.
  • Previous experience serving as a Lead Carpenter, Construction Lead, Carpenter Foreman, or similar working-lead position preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate small construction or skilled-trades crews.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial or industrial building construction, repair, and remodeling.
  • Proficiency with saws, routers, grinders, drills, nailers, and other hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, measurements, and construction sketches.
  • Experience with framing, drywall installation, doors, trim, cabinetry, and general facility construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of building and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and prioritize work across different facilities.
  • Ability to use computer-based systems for work orders and basic project tracking.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to lift and carry construction materials, climb ladders, work from elevated positions, and perform physically demanding work in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, commercial, or large facility environments.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and other skilled trades.
  • Experience estimating project labor and material requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to keep crews productive while maintaining quality and safety standards.
