Description

Senior Survey Technician - Richardson, TX

Halff has an immediate opening for a Senior Survey Technician to work in our Richardson office. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced survey technician who is ready to take greater ownership of complex survey production, exercise independent technical judgment, support quality deliverables, and serve as a technical resource to other members of the survey team.

The Senior Survey Technician works with a limited degree of supervision and applies established survey procedures and technical knowledge to a variety of assignments, including more complex or atypical work. The position supports project delivery through survey research, data processing, calculations, boundary and right-of-way analysis, preparation of survey documents, and QA/QC. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to streamline existing processes and improve workflow efficiency.

What you will do:

  • Organize and evaluate survey research, including deeds, plats, easements, right-of-way documents, record surveys, and other supporting records.
  • Process, reduce, manage, and review field survey data and observations.
  • Perform COGO and other survey calculations necessary to support boundary, right-of-way topographic, and design survey projects.
  • Prepare and review survey drawings, plays, exhibits, maps, digital terrain data, and other project deliverables.
  • Prepare legal descriptions and associated exhibits under the direction of an RPLS.
  • Assist the RPLS with boundary analysis, including evaluation of record documents, survey evidence, calculations, and potential discrepancies.
  • Assist with preparation of survey reports and supporting documentation.
  • Perform TxDOT survey production, including parcel plats/exhibits, ROW maps, property descriptions, and related right-of-way deliverables.
  • Review survey data and deliverable for completeness, consistency, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements before submitting them for final review.
  • Identify technical issues or conflicting data and develop appropriate approaches or recommendations for review by the RPLS or Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with field crews, surveyors, engineers, and other project team members to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery.
  • Apply established survey standards, procedures, and project requirements while exercising judgment on less-routine assignments.
  • Serve as an informal technical resource and mentor to less-experienced survey technicians, sharing technical knowledge, production methods, and best practices.

What you will need:

  • 5+ years of relevant survey experience, with progressively responsible survey production experience.
  • Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, terminology, computations, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing survey maps, plats, exhibits, legal descriptions, and other survey deliverables.
  • Experience performing survey calculations, data reduction, and COGO.
  • Experience supporting boundary and right-of-way survey projects.
  • TxDOT experience preparing parcel exhibits/plats, ROW maps, property descriptions, or related ROW deliverables.
  • Proficiency with applicable survey and CAD production software, including OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to interpret deeds, plats, easements, right-of-way documents, field data, engineering plans, and other project records.
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies in survey data and records and communicate findings clearly to an RPLS or project team.
  • Ability to perform assignments with limited supervision, manage priorities, and meet project schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to producing accurate, high-quality survey deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with field and office teams.

Preferred Requirements:

  • NSPS CST Level III certification, or actively working toward CST Level III.
  • SIT certification or demonstrated progress toward professional surveying licensure.
  • Previous survey field experience is highly desired but not requried.
  • Experience with Public Works, Transportation, Right-of-Way, or Land Development surveying.
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center.
  • Experience with GIS, point-cloud, LiDAR, or other geospatial data and workflows.
