SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Electrical and Controls Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous operation of facility electrical distribution and building automation and controls associated with site utility systems within a manufacturing environment. This role supports mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and utility systems while ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable facility operations through preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and emergency response activities.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

The Electrical and Controls Maintenance Technician reports to the Department Manager of Facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes assigned PMs and work orders and completes all associated paperwork prior to assigned due date.
  • Shutdown, startup, and reset site electrical systems up to 120V single phase.
  • Assists electricians with restoration of services following power interruptions.
  • Has basic understanding of site electric distribution systems; locations of sub-stations and areas of plant coverage for each, locations of major electrical panels, locations of emergency and standby generators, power feeds for major utilities, location of high voltage switchgear, routing of power from NYSEG substation.
  • Replace like-for-like components up to 120V (Switches, receptacles, plugs, fuses, misc. controls devices, etc.):
  • Perform basic electrical maintenance on items such changing light bulbs, reading power meters, checking and testing emergency lights, checking receptacles, reading basic VFD diagnostics and starting and stopping motors using drive controls, removing and replacing receptacle covers, removal and replacement of single-phase motors.
  • Understands and can navigate basic functions of building management systems (BMS).
  • Layout and install EMT conduit up to 3/4" for small projects.
  • Has basic understanding key site utilities including air compressors, chiller systems, site fire protection systems, boilers, etc.
  • Performs basic mechanical maintenance on items such as gears, sprockets, chain and belt systems, air pressure regulators and lines, mechanical speed control devices, couplers, belt and pulley drives, etc.
  • Performs basic general buildings maintenance tasks such as assembling and moving furniture, reconfiguring soft cubicle walls, mounting items onto concrete and sheetrock walls, shoveling snow, isolating and containing piping and roof leaks, etc.
  • Operates site vehicles and equipment including trucks, fork trucks, tractors, utility vehicles, all terrain boom lift, scissor lifts, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Understands basic electrical theory. (Candidates will take a written examination during interview)
  • Has basic knowledge of National Electric Codes, can access and navigate NEC.
  • Completes all basic electrical safety training per NFPA 70E.
  • Team player and willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Facilities maintenance experience; Preference - 3 years facility maintenance experience
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in priorities, multiple work assignments, work conditions and other interactions that may impact preestablished courses of action for completing projects and assignments.
  • Ability to identify information, materials, and resources needed to complete a project or assignment.
  • Able to read and interpret schematic single line drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Able to read/Understand blueprints or manufacturers' manuals, data sheets, function charts, schematics to determine correct installation or operation of machinery specific to core function.
  • Access and use basic computer software programs such Outlook, Microsoft Office applications, etc.
  • Use/apply basic math skills.

GMP DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

  • Provide Technical input for investigations to determine possible causes, support root cause determination efforts, and develop/assign appropriate corrective actions.
  • Author Change Controls and update PMs accordingly

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $30.00 to $36.00. This position is eligible for Alvogen's annual discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits package, consisting of medical and prescription drug coverage (two PPO plans and an HDHP with Health Savings Account and employer contribution), dental, vision, flexible spending accounts.
