Job Description

The A1B Power Plant Electrical Systems unit is looking for an experienced and motivated project manager to enable the success of multiple electrical system design efforts to be installed on the Navy's new nuclear-powered battleship (BBGN) and FORD Class aircraft carriers. The team currently provides technical oversight of the A1B Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard (PREPY) at Newport News Shipbuilding. The team is involved in the design and qualification of multiple surface ship propulsion plant and electric plant systems and components. The project manager would be integral to the unit's ability to synchronize resources and manage risk across multiple concurrent design efforts. This is a unique and challenging role that will require both strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; must be willing to engage with a wide range of stakeholders between NNL, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Reactors, BPMI, and multiple program vendors.



This position allows for some amount of work from home and some amount of travel subject to business needs of the unit.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Project scheduling experience
  • Demonstrated ability to align stakeholders to deliver complex project deliverables
  • Strong technical background or experience in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Experience with initiating, planning, and executing projects
  • Experience managing project risk to deliver projects on-time and under budget
  • Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program work experience
  • Effective communication skills and confidence in public speaking or presenting
  • Demonstrated ability to work on diverse team developing complex technical products

Pay Range
$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
