Position Highlights

Dr. Kerri Rodriguez's Human-Animal Bond Lab (HAB Lab) is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to help lead a national study examining the impacts of facility dog programs on patient and canine wellbeing, alongside other ongoing lab projects investigating the role of companion, therapy/facility, and service dogs in human health and wellbeing. This in-person role's responsibilities include participant recruitment, consent, and communication, as well as broader project management such as scheduling, staffing, and coordination with collaborators. This position offers hands-on experience in an interdisciplinary research environment spanning psychology, veterinary medicine, and clinical rehabilitation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Participant Recruitment & Data Collection

  • Recruit, enroll, and communicate with study participants remotely following a script and process.
  • Explain study details to potential participants for multiple studies, answer questions, and refer potential participants to the study link where consent is completed by the participant.
  • Coordinate scheduling across multiple concurrent research studies.
  • Process compensation for research subjects and maintain confidentiality of data and accurate record keeping.

Project Management & Coordination

  • Coordinate project logistics including timelines, scheduling, staffing needs, and coordination with external collaborators and partner organizations.
  • Track expenditures on participant compensation and shipping.
  • Update and maintain project dashboards and timelines.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Organize and assemble IRB packets and follow up with areas to gain necessary information for the packet submission.
  • Ensure adherence to human subjects research and data security requirements by following outlined processes and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, reports, graphs, and other materials, maintaining appropriate logs and tracking participant progress records.

Laboratory Support

  • Train student research assistants and coordinate student workflows.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative lab environment.
  • Maintain laboratory space and equipment.
  • Maintain organization of physical and virtual spaces and files.
  • Obtain, store and track research supplies and samples.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team skills (in person, writing, and telephone).
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with REDCap and Qualtrics preferred, but not required.
  • Project management experience.
