ROLE OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible to collect, prepare, test, analyze, and document samples to determine content and characteristics. Test samples using laboratory apparatus and testing equipment then entering findings in cloud-based database. Collaborate with entire ready-mix team using resources like digital interfaces, cloud-based databases and other tools available.

This is a seasonal position, you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round.

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM with two Saturdays per month. The schedule may vary due to weather and customer demand.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)



  1. Conduct testing of Knife River ready-mix products and materials from various locations according to ASTM standards and/or State specifications.
  2. Communicate field data with ready-mix team digitally after getting results
  3. Enter and update aspects of concrete mixes in cloud based database.
  4. Must be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  5. Must be able to work varied hours and multitask
  6. Limited travel potentially necessary.
  7. Ensure DOT, MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  8. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)



  1. Working knowledge of concrete materials, production processes, testing procedures, and applicable quality standards.
  2. Demonstrated ability to perform concrete testing accurately, interpret specifications and mix designs, maintain detailed testing documentation, identify and communicate potential quality concerns, and work effectively with operations and project personnel.
  3. Requires strong attention to detail, mathematical aptitude, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in both plant and field environments.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Knowledge of concrete materials, mix designs, batching processes, and concrete production practices.
  6. Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  7. Able to work independently and under time constraints.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)



  1. AAS degree in civil engineering desirable, or
  2. A combination of post-secondary education and experience, or
  3. High School education.
  4. Valid driver's license.
  5. ACI Field Testing and Strength Testing Technician certification desirable (willing to train).
  6. Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, MSHA, Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulation compliance including attending training.
